How the world’s oceans could help feed a growing global population

Find out more about how the global community is working towards change

Food production is an important topic, especially in vulnerable communities where we work and since the world’s population is projected to balloon to 9.7 billion by 2050, according to reports by the United Nations. The good news is, many believe fish farming may be a future solution.

The fast-growing food production sector is overcoming some environmental challenges, but the prospects look promising.

“The fact is aquaculture is the best way to help feed some 10-billion people in the coming years,” Martin Exel, managing director of Seafood Business for Ocean Stewardship, is quoted as saying by the UN News Centre. “It can be scaled up in a healthy and sustainable way, which is why our members are working closely with scientists to advance the technology that will ensure that we can effectively solve the food production challenges we are all facing.”

One of the ways Children Believe helps vulnerable families around the world access food is through farming, which offers a sustainable, lasting income. Like the United Nations and our peers, we’re invested in addressing the Sustainable Development Goals designed to create a better future for all, including ensuring everyone has access to food, education and more.

About Children Believe

Children Believe works globally to empower children to dream fearlessly, stand up for what they believe in — and be heard. For 60+ years, we’ve brought together brave young dreamers, caring supporters and partners, and unabashed idealists. Together, we’re driven by a common belief: creating access to education — inside and outside of classrooms — is the most powerful tool children can use to change their world.

About Childfund Alliance

A member of ChildFund Alliance, Children Believe is part of a global network of child-focused development organizations working to create opportunities for children and youth, their families and communities. ChildFund helps nearly 23-million children and their families in 70 countries overcome poverty and underlying conditions that prevent children from achieving their full potential.
