It’s now reported 100-million people worldwide are living in a state of forced displacement, according to new data from the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR).
Forced displacement has increased significantly during the past few years, as individuals and families have escaped violence and conflict as well as climate crises. This includes refugees and asylum seekers as well as those who have been displaced within their country’s borders.
By the end of 2021, there was 90-million forcibly displaced people. However, due to the war in Ukraine, this number of forcibly displaced people in the world has reached a record high of 100 million.
“This must serve as a wake-up call to resolve and prevent destructive conflicts, end persecution and address the underlying causes that force innocent people to flee their homes,” says Filippo Grandi, UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
Children Believe recognizes the impact displacement has on a child’s ability to thrive and has created ways to support families during these difficult times.
Through the generosity of our donors Children Believe is supporting ChildFund Germany in helping provide shelter, daily essentials (such as food, baby formula, diapers) as well as psychosocial care.
In Burkina Faso, Children Believe has partnered with UNICEF to help provide children and families with safe spaces, medical assistance, psycho-social support and more for displaced people, following years of insurgent attacks in the country.
