UN’s Guterres calls for strong global health systems

Focusing on creating a world where everyone has access to care

As nations around the world gathered at the 71st session opening of the World Health Assembly in Geneva this week, it was made clear that everyone, everywhere deserves equal access to quality healthcare.

“We need strong resilient systems that place people at the centre,” said António Guterres, secretary general to the United Nations. “Universal health coverage provides the foundation to help us overcome the inequities that continue to leave so many behind.”

The secretary general pointed to the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 3, one target of many global goals for change by 2030. It focuses on reducing the burden of disease in vulnerable communities around the world.

Last year, thanks to supporters to Christian Children’s Fund of Canada, nearly 30,000 children had annual health and dental checkups, more than 3,000 received vaccinations and more than 3,000 children received anti-parasitic medication. We believe in supporting healthy development in children, so they can grow up strong, go to school and chase their dreams.

For 60+ years, we’ve brought together brave young dreamers, caring supporters and partners, and unabashed idealists. Together, we’re driven by a common belief: creating access to education — inside and outside of classrooms — is the most powerful tool children can use to change their world.
