MARKHAM, Ont. (June 19, 2017) — Dr. John Dirks is the new Chair of the Board of Directors at Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (CCFC). Dirks, a retired physician from Toronto, has volunteered as a Director on CCFC’s Board since June 2012.
“It’s a real honour to be nominated as the Chair of the Board of Directors,” explains Dirks. “Having had extensive experience in global health, I am a highly appreciative supporter of CCFC’s influence in the lives of children in need and place great emphasis on presenting this to the people of Canada. I look forward to the coming months and years, as CCFC continues to amplify its impact in communities around the world.”
In the course of his career, Dirks has received many honours and awards. He holds Honorary Doctorate of Science degrees from the University of Manitoba and University of Toronto, a Biomedical Science Ambassador Award from Partners in Research and the Banting Research Foundation and is a recipient of the Order of Canada and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. In 2012, Dirks became an inductee into The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame.
As CCFC’s Board Chair, Dirks will provide leadership and oversight to the organization, working closely with the Board of Directors to ensure the organization’s vision, mission and mandate are fulfilled.
Dirks succeeds Dr. Douglas Ellenor, a retired oil and gas industry executive. Ellenor served as CCFC’s Board Chair for three years.
