Canadian children raise money to support education around world

Find out why schoolchildren were inspired to help By Brianne Binelli, digital content manager

Providing children access to education is what we’re all about, so we were thrilled to hear about a class in Terrace, British Columbia that learned about the value of education. They raised $300 to help kids around the world through Children Believe — just in time for Christmas.

The Grade 3/4 French class from École francophone Jack Cook — a small school in Northwestern B.C. — learned education is not free in every country, and some children can’t afford to go to school. “They were horrified, and immediately asked what they could do,” recalls Renée Syvret, the school’s principal.

So, Renée and the students opened a Christmas Bazaar, selling used toys in excellent condition, clothing, baked goods, games and books. It was such a success, other classes are eager to join next year.

After the bazaar, Renée made a donation to support education, giving gifts through Children Believe’s gift catalogue. The kids and their teacher sent two girls to school for a year and supplied a classroom.

Thanks to Renée and the school’s amazing students, staff and parents who joined to help more children access education (a basic human right!). Now more children will have the knowledge and tools to reach their dreams, just like these awesome kids in British Columbia.

You can host a fundraiser for Children Believe, too. Get the details.
