Giving a gift of hope that will last a lifetime

By Peter Harris, Children Believe donor and former executive director

How you can make a difference for the future

We all need hope and inspiration, especially during this time of worldwide crisis. It’s why I’m more grateful each day for God’s blessings and for the gift children bring to our lives.

I travelled for more than 20 years as executive director of Children Believe (then Christian Children’s Fund of Canada), and I constantly gave thanks (and still do) for the kids in the programs.

I always saw hope, excitement, love and inspiration in the shining eyes of each of the 100,000+ little ones I met. They do believe. They believe in their parents, their friends and their teachers — their hopes for the future.

Success stories about sponsored children inspire my family and me to redouble our efforts to help. I was thrilled to read in the Children Believe 2019 Annual Report of 10 such successes.

I read about Lucienne from Burkina Faso, where I’ve visited often. She was inspired by her sponsor who told her she was special and had a future. Today, the 32-year-old social worker uses similar words to encourage children she serves. In India, Anandharaj, practices law so he can help his low-caste (or class) community fight false criminal charges.

There are countless success stories fuelled by the energy of 60-years’-worth of sponsors and supporters.

Now’s our chance to celebrate those 60 years, while making a difference for the future. Join me as a legacy giver, and remember Children Believe in your Will. Perhaps you could also consider supporting a special project or an emergency gift pack to help struggling parents during the pandemic. There are countless possibilities.

I’m confident, that together with dedicated supporters, the volunteer Board of Directors, staff and program partners overseas will make a difference. May God bless you on this journey of love!

About Children Believe

Children Believe works globally to empower children to dream fearlessly, stand up for what they believe in — and be heard. For 60+ years, we’ve brought together brave young dreamers, caring supporters and partners, and unabashed idealists. Together, we’re driven by a common belief: creating access to education — inside and outside of classrooms — is the most powerful tool children can use to change their world.

About Childfund Alliance

A member of ChildFund Alliance, Children Believe is part of a global network of child-focused development organizations working to create opportunities for children and youth, their families and communities. ChildFund helps nearly 23-million children and their families in 70 countries overcome poverty and underlying conditions that prevent children from achieving their full potential. We work to end violence against children; provide expertise in emergencies and disasters to ease the harmful impact on children and their communities; and engage children and youth to create lasting change and elevate their voices in decisions that affect their lives.
