Stand with us to End Child Marriage

The pandemic has sparked a boom in child marriages, a growing trend deepened by poverty, conflict, gender inequality and lack of education. Education changes everything for girls.

Child marriage is a growing, urgent issue

100,000,000 girls were expected to marry before their eighteenth birthday by 2030 (pre-pandemic).

1,200,000,000 is the estimate of children affected by school closures during the pandemic. Many parents were also at home. Without a family income, sons were sent to work and daughters were married.

Up to 10,000,000 more girls are at risk of becoming child brides because of the pandemic and school closures.

Help girls stay in school and say no to child marriage

Girls with no education are three times more likely to marry before age 18 than girls who attended secondary school or higher. This is why Children Believe works with local partners in communities worldwide to help girls stay in school.

Nearly 400,000 girls and boys have gained greater access to education this year through Children Believe programs. Click the box below, and donate now to support young girls so the can stay in school and end child marriage.

4 ways we’re helping end child marriage

1. We support traditional and faith leaders, police and government agencies to uphold existing laws protecting girls from being married as children and enabling them to stay in school.

2. We challenge social norms perpetuating these harmful traditional practices through community awareness campaigns.

3. We build knowledge and skills of girls who’ve been married so they’re empowered to create opportunities for themselves, their peers and their families.

4. We empower community leaders to make positive change for future generations.

Support young leaders ending child marriage

Every day, girls are forced to drop out of school due to child marriage, exposing them to violence and abuse. Empower girls to be able to say "no" to this practice and stay in school through human rights workshops, education materials, sanitary kits and skills training to earn income as they become adults.
